About

HOVIK MURADIAN
Painter Hovik Muradian hails from an artistic family. Born in 1964 in the Armenian capital of Yerevan, Hovik received a specialized, professional education, graduating from the Hakob Kojoyan School of Fine Arts and the Panos Terlemezyan College of Fine Arts. Having already participated in various exhibitions in Armenia, it was not until after moving to the Czech Republic that he established himself as a mature artist. Thus, over the next few decades, the creative world of artist Hovik Muradian underwent major changes.
His works became a confluence of the classical and the avant-garde. They began to represent both realism and philosophy, the struggle between nature and man as well as the interplay between the abstract and the natural. The re-presentation of a woman – as a source of love, as a symbol of motherhood, and as a maternal pillar of the family – holds a separate, special place amongst his art.
Although portraits and landscape art dominated the artist’s initial creative period, moving to the Czech Republic heralded an era of self-affirmation and the search for new directions. Hovik began the new journey with boldness and ease, without hesitation or constraint, unafraid of improvisations. Not only did he master the technique of painting, but he also acquired an enthralling and marked ability to depict the surrounding reality and its reflections.
Anyone who is familiar with Hovik’s works will unmistakably recognize his brush strokes, which radiate optimism, faith, and love. His paintings are not characterized by black or depressing colors. With the play on red and yellow, the influence of the warmth of the Armenian sun is felt in his works, even though he has not lived in Armenia for many years now.
The painter has fully immersed himself and integrated into European culture whilst unequivocally remaining an Armenian artist. Becoming a member of the Artists’ Union of Prague, academic artist Hovik has actively participated not only in Czech showcases but also in various Euro- pean exhibitions. He has been able to inspire the creation of an avid network of fans of his art, who has always displayed a deep interest in his works. In recent years, he also began developing his sculpting. Hovik created small sculptures, which with their moving performative art tone, continue to fascinate and draw in fans of his art. Sculpture is of course not a new field for him, as he had studied sculpting at the Kojoyan School for four years and was heavily involved in sculpting during his student years.
Presently, as he puts it, there was a desire to translate the themes of the paintings into artistic figures and shapes in the form of sculptures. He resoundingly succeeded in this endeavor.
His works of art continue to spread and gain ground internationally, both through exhibitions and the attentiveness of individuals. Hovik’s canvases and paintings have become an integral part of numerous private collections across many countries around the world. In addition to his artistic endeavors, Hovik also undertook a handful of private commissions, among them the creation of exquisite graphics for the renowned genetic lineage certificate of the Generarium.
He lives in our time, yet he fashions his own time, within the sphere and space of his own art. Indeed, such works have a sense of authentic permanency, and will firmly withstand the test of time.
